Join Us

Appalachian Pug Rescue is a volunteer-powered, foster-based, non-profit breed rescue.

Our greatest asset is the dedication and compassion of our volunteers.

We need volunteers to take on recurring roles, like helping with administrative support, fundraising, adoption, and foster screening, event coordinating, crafting, and more. You can also give time when you have it – an hour here and there can really add up to help pugs.

Complete our Volunteer Application to let us know how you’d like to get involved!

Fostering

A foster can be the difference between life and death for a dog in the shelter and they are intricate in the rehabilitation of abused and neglected dogs.

We need foster homes in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, West Virginia, New Jersey, and New York areas.

Becoming a foster parent is an important commitment. Foster parents help dogs assimilate to their new homes, sometimes after difficult or stressful situations. Some pugs arrive needing medical care or having experienced neglect or abuse. Foster parents play a crucial role in assessing their needs and helping these pugs on their journey to a forever home.

If you are interested in getting involved and becoming one of our foster parents, please fill out the application to get the process started. A volunteer will be in touch to arrange an interview. Short-term and long-term foster help is needed.

If you rent your property, you will have to provide proof that dogs are acceptable in the property or allow us to contact your landlord to confirm.

Transport

Transporting is an important way to help APR. Often a "freedom ride" is the most rewarding part of rescue.

We also need assistance transporting dogs to vet appointments and on journeys to new homes.

If you are interested in transporting, please complete this application. Once accepted, you must also sign a Transport Contract.

You MUST have both auto and health insurance to be a transporter. Appalachian Pug Rescue is an LLC and cannot assume any accident bills incurred as a result of your interaction with the animal(s). Dogs should always be crated or secured with a harness and dog safety belt in the back seat. You will be provided with a transport guide prior to your first assignment and our volunteer staff can help answer any questions you may have.

The most impactful way to help is DONATE.

Make a one-time donation, a memorial donation, sponsor a specific pug, or become an APR Angel with a recurring donation! Every dollar counts!
