Spencer Charles is proving that it’s never too late to discover just how wonderful life can be.
This handsome gentleman spent his entire life with one owner before finding his way to Appalachian Pug Rescue. Since arriving in foster care, he’s embraced the comforts of family life with open paws and an open heart.

A True Companion
Spencer is happiest wherever his people are. He’ll quietly follow you from room to room, settle in nearby while you work or relax, and happily soak up every bit of affection you’re willing to give.
At bedtime, he’s an expert cuddler who loves sleeping with his people and settles in for a peaceful night’s rest.
Personality
Spencer is sweet, gentle, brave, and quietly joyful.
He wakes up each morning excited to start the day—especially if breakfast is involved. While he’s generally calm and easygoing, he has an adorable playful side. Give him a good belly rub and you’ll often be rewarded with 15–20 minutes of happy playtime. Every now and then, he’ll even surprise everyone with a burst of joyful zoomies.
Watching Spencer continue to discover the simple pleasures of being a beloved family dog has been one of the greatest joys of his foster journey.
A Foodie With Good Manners
Spencer is thriving on a soft diet of Freshpet Chicken & Brown Rice with a little pumpkin at breakfast and warm water mixed into each meal.
His favorite treats include:
* Red and orange bell peppers
* Mother Hubbard Organic Peanut Butter Cookies (broken into smaller pieces)
Because of previous food insecurity and significant dental pain before his dental procedure, Spencer prefers eating without other dogs hovering around his bowl. Feeding him separately in a multi-dog home helps him feel comfortable and relaxed.
Toys & Comfort
Spencer is still discovering toys, and it’s impossible not to smile while watching him figure them out.
His favorites include his Lamb Chop toy and a cozy snuggle blanket. More than anything, though, Spencer loves being comfortable, safe, and close to the people he loves.
Home Life
Spencer enjoys a predictable, relaxed routine. Breakfast, a little time outside, lounging near his family throughout the day, an early dinner, and an evening of television and snuggles suit him perfectly.
He is reliably house trained and understands that potty time means going outside.
Walks & Mobility
Spencer has a weak hind end, so he’s more of a leisurely stroll-and-sniff kind of guy than a hiking partner.
He can manage stairs but may tire more quickly, and he’ll do best with a family that keeps an eye on him around furniture, as he occasionally misjudges the edge of the couch.
A fenced yard is not required—he simply enjoys taking his time outdoors and exploring at his own pace.
Grooming & Veterinary Care
Spencer is wonderfully cooperative for grooming and handling.
* Enjoys baths
* Excellent for nail trims
* Tolerates ear and wrinkle cleaning well (please be gentle around a small growth on his left ear)
* Recently received the dental care he needed after living with significant dental pain
His easygoing personality makes caring for him a pleasure.
Car Rides
Spencer rides well in the car, although he’d much rather be as close to you as possible. A dog car seat or passenger to help keep him safely settled is recommended.
