Some dogs arrive in rescue carrying more than medical needs.
They carry the weight of an entire lifetime.
Teresa Fern is approximately 13 years old, and for most of those years, she appears to have been used for breeding. She arrived at Appalachian Pug Rescue in heartbreaking condition — covered in scars, suffering from sores and hot spots, and carrying the physical signs of long-term neglect.
And yet somehow, beneath all of it, her sweetness survived.
The Reality of Teresa’s Journey
At 13 years old, Teresa should have been spending her golden years curled up on soft blankets and being spoiled rotten. Instead, she seems to have spent much of her life producing litter after litter with very little care given back to her.
She arrived with:
- multiple scars
- painful skin irritation
- various lumps and bumps
- no veterinary records
- no known medical history
But that chapter of her life is over now.
A New Beginning
Teresa Fern is now safe in foster care in Pennsylvania, where she is finally receiving comfort, medical attention, soft meals, medicated baths, and gentle care simply because she deserves it.
Not because someone wants something from her.
Despite everything she has endured, Teresa remains incredibly sweet and quietly trusting. There is a softness to her that neglect could not take away.
Healing Starts Here
We are starting completely from scratch with Teresa’s medical care. She will need:
- a full senior veterinary workup
- skin and coat treatment
- evaluation of her lumps and sores
- lots of rest, patience, and love
Our goal now is simple: comfort, healing, and dignity.
A Survivor in Bloom
Teresa Fern is no longer “just a breeder dog.”
She is a lady.
She is safe.
She is finally loved.
And like the fern she’s named after, she’s beginning to unfold toward the light.
