3Eleanor Mary, senior pug abandoned for dead on a country road.
🌈 In Loving Memory of Eleanor Mary 🌈
With heavy hearts, we share that our dear Eleanor Mary has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Eleanor Mary came to APR in early December 2023 after being abandoned on a desolate country road, left for dead. A kindhearted samaritan spotted her and got her to safety—changing the course of her life.
Though her story began with heartbreak, it did not end that way. Once she joined our hospice program, Eleanor Mary knew nothing but gentle hands, warm beds, and unconditional love. Her days were filled with snuggles, soft blankets, quiet walks, and the peaceful dignity every senior pug deserves.
Diagnosed with insulinoma and bearing the signs of long-term neglect—underweight, mostly toothless, and with nails grown painfully into her pads—Eleanor Mary still chose love. She loved to be close, to rest her little head on a foster’s arm, to trust again. She reminded us all what resilience looks like.
Eleanor Mary’s final chapter was written with tenderness and care. Though she never played with toys or barked for attention, her quiet spirit made a lasting impression. She passed in the arms of someone who loved her, and that is the greatest gift we could offer her.
If you’d like to honor Eleanor Mary and help us continue caring for our hospice pugs, please consider becoming an APR Angel. Your support means the world to pugs like her.
Run free, sweet Eleanor Mary. You were deeply loved. 💛

- Estimated to be 10-12 yrs old
- Female brindle pug
- 16 lb
Eleanor Mary was dumped and left for dead in a deserted area but luckily found in early December by a good samaritan who watches for this!
The vet has determined she is HW negative. She entered rescue in heat so she will be spayed if her bloodwork comes back and allows anesthetization She has very few teeth left so a soft food diet is required. She suffers from typical hearing and vision loss for a pug her age. Her ears are very dirty and some of her nails were grown into her pads.
Eleanor Mary needs a lot of TLC right now. She has not shown any interest in toys and she is underweight and has been neglected. We suspect she may be a breeder dump.
Eleanor Mary does enjoy going on short walks. She is getting lots and lots of TLC in her foster home in Richmond, VA. She loves snuggling! Please keep this sweet girl in your thoughts as she settles in with APR.
