Meet Prince Henry August!

Every now and then, a dog comes into our care whose resilience leaves us speechless. Meet 11-year-old Henry August (formerly Hercules), a senior pug who is the ultimate definition of a survivor.

Henry’s story began in a very dark place. In May, he was brought to a shelter by his previous owners for euthanasia. He was in devastating shape — emaciated, scoring 5/5 on the neglect scale, and so weak he could barely stand. Thankfully, the incredible teams at ACCT Philly and the SPCA stepped in, saved his life, and started him on a careful medical refeeding plan.

Fast forward to today, and Henry August is a walking miracle! He has fought his way back, gaining weight from a heartbreaking 10.8 pounds up to a much healthier 15 pounds.

Now officially an APR baby in his Pennsylvania foster home, Henry is showing us what a true zest for life looks like. Despite everything, he’s an absolute lovebug — his foster family calls him a “super sweet, velcro boy” who is incredibly easygoing. And this resilient senior loves his walks, practically bouncing with joy along the trail!

On the medical side, we have all his records and will be managing his chronic dry eye (KCS) with daily drops, plus keeping an eye on a small skin tag.

Henry August looked into the eyes of neglect and chose joy instead. He is finally safe, deeply cherished, and will never again wonder where his next meal or snuggle is coming from. Welcome to the good life, sweet Henry. You earned it. 🐾
